Herbal Decongesting Steam for Health AND Beauty

The Holidays are fast approaching. With that comes old traditions, familiar faces and new memories. It's a time for giving, a time for sharing and a time for receiving... germs, that is. The dreaded cold and flu ninja has snuck it's way back into our lives and, no matter the amount of face masks or makeup we slather on, when that cold attacks us we feel everything BUT pretty.
Luckily, I have just the thing to punch that little ninja in the kisser so we can feel good about ourselves all winter long... because feeling good is what beauty is all about.

The holiday scented recipe I have listed below works wonders for decongestion. I swear by this and, bonus, it helps clean out your pores, leaving your skin soft and glowing. So not only will you feel better, but you'll look great too!

Ingredients:
  • 3 cps. purified or distilled water
  • 2 tsp. peppermint leaves; eucalyptus may be substituted
  • 1 tsp. marsh mallow root; comfrey may be substituted
  • 1 tsp. thyme leaves
  • 1 tsp. rosemary leaves
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
Prep Instructions:
  • Bring water to a boil.
  • Remove from heat and add the herbs, cover, and steep for 5 minutes.
  • Leave infused herbs in the covered pan; do not transfer.
Application Instructions:
  • First and foremost, begin process with clean skin.
  • Drape a large bath towel over your head and shoulders with the steaming herbs in front of you to create a tent.
  • With your eyes closed and your face about 10 inches from the edge of the pot (to avoid burning your skin and lungs) breathe deeply and relax as you allow the steam to reach deep into the sinus cavities, lungs, throat and pores.
  • Enjoy this process for 10 min.
  • When finished, use a toner on your skin (I prefer Witch Hazel) and splash your face with cool water to help close your pores.
Information:

  • Please do not use this steam if you suffer from asthma, sunburned or windburned skin, weepy acne, acne rosacea, broken capillaries or just generally very sensitive skin as steam may further irritate these conditions.
  • Do not use more than 5 days in a row (for your skin's safety)
  • Makes 1 treatment; do not store.
